The Scottish Fishermen’s Federation met with the Secretary of State for Scotland David Mundell on Thursday 18 August as part of its strategy of gaining an early insight into Government thinking on the processes and goals of Brexit.
The SFF’s principal objectives were too hear from the Secretary of State the developing framework for Brexit and to ensure that the fishing industry is an integral element of the process and fully involved at all stages.
“We emphasised to the Secretary of State throughout discussions our requirement to play a full part in the process of shaping the structure of Brexit as it applies to fishing,” said Bertie Armstrong, SFF chief executive.
“It also provided us with a good opportunity to brief him on the potential size of the benefits for fishing and the requirement for a strong UK political stance to achieve these goals.”
The SFF will be holding further meetings with both UK and Scottish government ministers over the coming weeks.
