Following discussion at the most recent FISG Fishermen’s Training Project Group meeting in Southampton, it has been decided that, with immediate effect, only experienced fishermen who can provide evidence that they have been fishing for at least 60 days within the last two years will be eligible for funding towards the cost of any approved training.

This mirrors new EU criteria coming in under EMFF to determine eligibility for support and is designed to target the limited funds available at genuine commercial fishermen wanting to develop their safety knowledge and skills.

This change does not apply to new entrants.

Guidance and application forms will accordingly be revised as soon as possible to reflect this change. Applicants will be required to detail their fishing experience over the two years prior to their application and provide contact details for the vessel owner or agent who can verify it.
