The Scottish Fishermen’s Federation (SFF) is pleased to announce that at its recent Executive Committee meeting an application for membership from the Fife Fishermen’s Association (FFA) was unanimously accepted.

The Fife Fishermen’s Association becomes the 10th constituent association in membership of the SFF along with the Anglo-Scottish Fishermen’s Association, Clyde Fishermen’s Association, Fishing Vessel Agents & Owners Association (Scotland), Mallaig and North-West Fishermen’s Association, Orkney Fishermen’s Association, Scallop Association, Scottish Pelagic Fishermen’s Association, Scottish Whitefish Producers’ Association and Shetland Fishermen’s Association.

The FFA membership currently consists of a diverse fleet of 36 boats involved in prawn trawling, creel fisheries and surf clam fisheries.  This mix strengthens the depth of membership in the SFF and broadens the geographic spread of the members.

Tom Mackenzie of the FFA said: “The time is right for our Association to sign up to the SFF as our members see the benefits of the wide range of representation the SFF can offer in an increasingly complex environment, including the advent of renewables and the Marine Protected Area legislation.”

Ross Dougal, President of the SFF added: ““The SFF is delighted to welcome the FFA into our membership and we are pleased that the Association recognises that the Federation can provide them with the representation they need in protecting their local industry.”
