SFF praise for Tim Oliver who retires this week as editor of Fishing News

The Scottish Fishermen’s Federation has paid tribute to Fishing News editor Tim Oliver who retires today (12 March) after 23 years in charge of the UK’s most influential fishing publication.

Bertie Armstrong, chief executive of the Scottish Fishermen’s Federation said:  “Tim has played an invaluable role in ensuring that the key issues of the day affecting the fishing industry are reported accurately, ensuring that Fishing News is an essential ‘must read’ publication for everyone connected with the industry.

“As a former distant water fisherman, Tim had a unique understanding and empathy with the fishing industry and this always came across in the way Fishing News reported the news of the day.  He had a prodigious work rate, and despite having the hard edge of a quality journalist, Tim was always friendly and courteous to deal with. He is universally liked and respected throughout industry and Government.

“We wish Tim well in his retirement, although we are glad to note that he will still be working for Fishing News part-time in a consulting and reporting capacity. We would also like to wish his successor, Cormac Burke, every success for the future.”
