SFF Services donates £120,000 to Scottish Fishermen’s Trust to help support worthwhile projects

SFF Services Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Scottish Fishermen’s Federation, is to donate £120,000 to the Scottish Fishermen’s Trust that will include support for projects to enhance fishing vessel safety.

SFF Services, which supplies a range of specialised support to the offshore oil and gas industries, will donate to the Trust £30,000 to aid in the training of the new updated FishSafe device, which is designed to alert fishing vessels to the presence of subsea obstructions.

A further £40,000 has been earmarked for fishing vessels to bring their stability safety calculations up-to-date. Fishing vessel owners can now apply for funding for both of the above projects through the Trust.

The final £50,000 tranche will go to the Trust’s general fund to help support a range of other projects.  One of the key aims of the Trust is to protect and conserve the marine environment and advance public understanding of marine ecology and biodiversity. It also aims to promote and encourage the health, safety and training of fishermen.

Ian Gatt, chairman of SFF Services Ltd, said: “We are delighted to have awarded this funding to the Scottish Fishermen’s Trust, which will help support a range of worthwhile projects for the fishing industry.”

James Brown, chairman of the Scottish Fishermen’s Trust, said: “We are very grateful to SFF Services for this extremely generous donation, which will play a major role in aiding fishing vessel safety and providing other vital support to the industry.”
